So I think it is very well documented my love of one Mr. Tim Riggins from Friday Night Lights (see here, here and here). So I was a little excited and then very confused by this new trailer I saw starring no other than my Tim Riggins. Take a look:
I must say I am quite confused by this. First of all, it is Disney which sometimes can mean something awesome and sometimes...not. Secondly, it is a story of a civil war guy who goes to Mars? Are they serious?
Well, it just so happens that I was looking at books today (because we all know I can't get enough of those!) and I saw that this is a book series. What?! And the first book came out in 1911! So bizarre. Here is the description from wikipedia (love it) of John Carter:
Burroughs portrays him as an immortal being. In the opening pages of A Princess of Mars, the author reveals to the reader that Carter can remember no childhood, having always been a man of about thirty years old. Many generations of families referred to him as "Uncle Jack," but he always lived to see all the members of the families grow old and die, while he remained young.
His character and courtesy exemplify the ideals of the antebellum South. A Virginian, he served as a captain in the American Civil War on the side of the Confederacy. He strikes it rich by finding gold in Arizona after the end of hostilities. While hiding from Apaches in a cave, he appears to die, and leaving his inanimate body behind is mysteriously transported by a form of astral projection to the planet Mars, where he finds himself re-embodied in a form identical to his earthly one. Accustomed to the greater gravity of Earth, he is much stronger than the natives of Mars.
Needless to say I had to buy the book! I am waiting for it to arrive. I will read it and see what we should be expecting from this extremely random film that is coming out.
